Preventive Health Care dog2.jpg
We strongly believe that "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure". We strongly recommend yearly check-ups for your pet along with individualized, regular vaccination protocols and annual screenings for intestinal worms and heartworms. We tailor individual vaccination programs to your particular pet’s needs to provide protection against contagious diseases and rattlesnakes.

General Surgery
If a surgical procedure is required, it will be handled and monitored by a skilled team using the best equipment, instrumentation, and vital statistics monitors. Our consulting pathologists provide exceptional diagnostic support with quick turnaround time for biopsies. We regularly offer spay/neuter discounts during the month of August, and occasionally at other times of year for feral cats. Please call for updates and current pricing.

Diagnostic Testing
We have the expertise to properly assess your pet's condition and provide the appropriate treatment. Our in-house blood analysis instruments enable us to offer complete blood cell counts, comprehensive blood chemistry and electrolyte analysis within minutes. Our partnering reference laboratories enable us to perform other non-routine diagnostics, advanced blood work, fecal and urine analyses with quick turnaround--typically within 24 to 48 hours.

Radiographs
With our in-house x-ray equipment, we are able to perform and read radiographs, usually while you wait. We regularly consult with board-certified veterinary radiologists in cases which may require an outside opinion or an ultrasound exam.

Dentistry
Unhealthy gums and teeth can jeopardize your pet’s total health, leading to kidney, liver, heart, and lung disorders. Our doctors and technicians are experienced in routine cleaning and polishing, as well as extractive procedures for diseased teeth. Preventing oral infections is better than treating them, and we offer several options to help you keep your pet’s teeth and gums healthy.

Pharmacy
We can provide you with your pet’s pharmacological needs with little waiting time for new prescriptions and refills from our well stocked pharmacy. For your convenience, prescription refills can be mailed at little or no extra cost.

Emergency Care
When a critical situation arises after hours, we share our cases with several local 24-hour full service veterinary emergency facilities. Should you have an emergency, please call University of California, Davis at (530) 752-1393 or Solano-Napa Pet Emergency Center at (707) 864-1444.

When it comes to caring for your pet's skin, we offer medical tests and treatments for allergies, hormonal and thyroid disorders, and external parasites, as well as other complications.

Microchipping
We provide microchip implant technology that registers your pet and reduces its chances of being lost. Pets retrieved by local animal shelters are scanned for information and returned to their owners.

Nutrition Counseling
We can prescribe special diets and counseling for the preparation of home-prepared diets to help treat skin, heart, kidney, liver and other intestinal diseases. If your pet's weight is a concern, we will create a healthy low-calorie feeding and exercise program tailored to your pet's breed and age.

Behavioral Counseling
If you are having a behavior issue with your pet, we can help. You don’t have to live with your pet’s poor behavior – it can be changed with proper training in understanding the dog/cat mind, and diagnosing and addressing any underlying causative medical disorders. Berryessa Vet works closely with local trainers and has a behaviorists on staff to help you have a healthy relationship with your pet.

Hip and Elbow Certification
Hip and elbow x-ray certifications are always recommended prior to breeding dogs. To help maintain the integrity of the breeds, we offer both PennHIP and Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) certification to reduce canine hip dysplasia, and OFA elbow certification to reduce canine elbow dysplasia.
